US ELECTION

Timetable for the Night 05:00 EST / 10:00 GMT / 11:00 CET
In person voting opens in Vermont – with polling stations allowed to open from 05:00 local time.

12:00 EST / 17:00 GMT / 18:00 CET
Polling stations open in Hawaii – the last state to open – with voting beginning at 07:00 local time

17:00 EST / 22:00 GMT / 23:00 CET- There is a strict quarantine on any news coming from the early waves of exit poll data until 17:00 ET

17:45 ET / 22:45 GMT / 23:45 CET
- expect to start seeing some initial demographic info on turnout etc

19:00 EST / 00:00 GMT / 01:00 CET

Polling stations start to shut across the eastern seaboard with polling closing in Vermont, Indiana, Kentucky, Virginia, Georgia, South Carolina and New Hampshire
- this will be a key point as a large number of exit polls will be released at this point
- Key here will be Georgia – although it will be a brave man to call the swing states based on an exit poll

19:30 EST / 00:30 GMT / 01:00 CET
Polling closes in North Carolina

20:00 EST / 01:00 GMT / 02:00 CET
Expect another large swathe of exit polls to be released with polls closing in another 18 states
- All eyes will be on Pennsylvania – widely seen as the State that will tip the balance either way
- Again though, given the tight margins, and the intense focus on counting, would not expect anyone to be calling Pennsylvania based on the exit poll

21:00 EST / 02:00 GMT / 03:00 CET
- Another 16 States will close and another large dump of exit polls
- Whilst we won’t yet have definitive results for the Swing States – we should have a pretty good sense of where the momentum lies and where the night is heading

01:00 EST / 06:00 GMT / 07:00 CET
Polls will shut in Hawaii (20:00 Local time) but under normal circumstances we would expect to have a clear idea of the result before then
