None of the pollsters confident in calling tonight, and it really will come down to reacting as we see things come in

As we noted in our preview, major news organisations are once again partnering up for the National exit poll.
-  ABC, CBS, CNN and NBC are all taking their polling from the Edison Research data – being distributed by Reuters
- Data collection is done through multiple sources throughout election data with results being called in to Edison on a rolling basis all day long

- The data is then analysed against predictions and previous voting patterns to identify any anomalies that may indicate any errors

- Data is then sent to the news networks who independently analyse the data and use their own statistical models to determine if they are happy to call a result when the polls close

That’s all well and good but of course in an election as close as this one – they are unlikely to be calling the swing states as the polls close , and we are likely to see running vote counts being published alongside details of how much of the vote is in.

As an example ABC News was running graphics such as these in 2020..
